Do I Have Stress and Anxiety?

Are you constantly worried about the future, overwhelmed by past experiences, or feeling trapped in a cycle of negative emotions? Do you struggle with feelings of shame, guilt, anger, or rejection? Are you held back by emotional baggage from a painful relationship or traumatic event?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you’re not alone.

Many people, especially those from black and other ethnic minority communities, suffer from stress and anxiety. Some common symptoms include:

  • Persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness
  • Fatigue or loss of energy
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Insomnia or sleeping too much
  • Irritability or restlessness

These symptoms can be indicators of a deeper issue that needs to be addressed. A helpful way to identify, if you may be dealing with a disorder, is by understanding the Four D’s.

The Four D’s of a Disorder:

  • Deviance: This refers to thoughts or behaviors that deviate from societal norms, such as engaging in self-harm or experiencing extreme mood swings.
  • Distress: Persistent negative feelings that cause emotional or psychological suffering, like excessive worry or constant sadness, are signs of distress.
  • Dysfunction: If your daily functioning is impaired or you struggle to cope with life’s challenges due to your thoughts or behaviors, you may be experiencing dysfunction.
  • Danger: Behaviors that pose a risk to yourself or others, such as reckless driving or substance abuse, are indicative of a potential disorder.

If you’re experiencing any of the Four D’s, it’s crucial to seek support and guidance. At Eden Counselling, our experienced counsellors are committed to providing compassionate care and guidance. We specialize in helping individuals overcome stress and anxiety by exploring unhealthy patterns, coping mechanisms, and wrong belief systems. We aim to equip you with the tools and insights needed to achieve personal growth, well-being, and freedom from the burden of stress and anxiety.
